Inaugural Foster Parent Appreciation and Recruitment Expo is May 18

RSVP today for VDSS' first Foster Parent Appreciation and Recruitment Expo on Friday, May 18 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Hilton Short Pump Hotel. VDSS is celebrating foster parents currently caring for children and youth as well as providing information to prospective foster parents who are interested in learning more about foster care. May is National Foster Care Month

May is nationally recognized as Foster Care Month, a time to honor the foster parents, service providers and other community partners who provide care and support children in foster care. Today in Virginia, there are more than 5,000 children currently in foster care. You may be eligible for a reduction in your TANF debt!

You may be eligible for a reduction in your TANF debt!

The Division of Child Support Enforcement's 2018 TANF Debt Compromise Program is now available to parents who owe TANF debt under a Virginia court or administrative order. The program is designed to encourage consistent child support payments by offering eligible parents a reduction in their TANF debt. For more information on how much you may be eligible to save, call 800-468-8894 or visit your local district office.

    Virginia Quality Program for Early Care and Education Reaches Milestone

    Virginia Quality, the Commonwealth's voluntary rating and improvement system for early learning child care providers, recognizes a milestone achievement in reaching over 1,000 program participants. Since 2015, the number of quality-rated, early learning programs has increased from 394 to 1,001 child care and preschool providers. This recent success will yield greater access to quality child care and preschool programs for Virginia's children and families.

    Application Period for Fuel Assistance Closing Soon

    The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is currently accepting applications for fuel assistance at all local departments of social services and online through Monday, November 13.

    To qualify for fuel assistance, the maximum gross monthly income for a one-person household must not exceed $1,307. For a household of four, the maximum gross monthly income is $2,665.
