About this Conversation

On April 25, 2012, over 200 local social services representatives, city and county executives, and state employees attended this unprecedented one-day event, at the Richmond Convention Center, to analyze our current social services system structure and how it can best work in the face of changing demographics, technology, federal laws and constrained finances. The conference theme was: "A Conversation: Virginia's Social Services System, Roles, Responsibilities, Funding." Participants heard presentations on the enterprise-wide vision for information systems modernization within Virginia's Health and Human Resources Secretariat , Virginia's Revenue Trends and Future fiscal Issues and a national initiative by the American Public Human Services Association, Pathways, designed to develop, build consensus for, and implement an outcomes-based, integrated, client-centric system of policy and practice for human services.
